Founded and named in the honour of King Charles II of England, Charleston is the oldest city in the State of South Carolina, United States of America, known for its history, architecture and several titles of being the most amiable city in America. It is also home to one of the youngest but highly successful film festivals in the United States, the Charleston International Film Festival.
A Passionate Beginning
The Charleston International Film Festival was founded by Summer Peacher, an employee in the Entertainment Industry and a huge film enthusiast, who thought it would be a really fun idea to start a film festival in the beautiful city of Charleston, her husband’s hometown. With her work experience and help from her husband Brian Peacher, she started planning for the event which slowly started to become a reality, and finally, in May, 2008, the dream materialized into a real thing which exceeded all expectations, and received great hype and amazing success.
Growing Strong
Although it’s pretty young and has not been around for long, the Charleston International Film Festival received massive success, enormous recognition and a great deal of sponsorship since its inception to its 7th anniversary in 2014, and it’s still growing rapidly. With a motive to inspire people, promote cultural differences and understanding, and ultimately, bring people together through the art of films, this nonprofit organization dedicates itself to finding and showcasing the creative minds in the world of film making and dreams to be the biggest and best film festival in the world.
The festival screens various brilliant and powerful films from filmmakers all over while also hosting special events, seminars and parties, and on the final day, a cash prize of $1,000 is awarded to the best film in the festival. The festival screens films in the following categories:
- Feature Films
- Foreign Films
- Short Films
- Documentaries
- Animations
Hoping to bridge the gap between cultural ethnicities and bring people together through the power of films, the Charleston International Film Festival may be young, but works hard to fulfil its goals and dreams, and truly deserves to be the best film festival in the world.
